30 March 2008

WE MADE IT! This morning we got to a point that seems so far away when you first begin the filmmaking process: the completion of post-production. But we've finally arrived. It took a lot of people, a lot of time, a lot of struggle, and a lot of effort, but we've all made it here together.

I look forward to being able to sit down later this evening and actually watch the movie. It's interesting that when you're involved as the director or as part of the post-production team on a film, you never really sit down and watch the film for what it is; you're a critical viewer unable to watch the film as a film. Ironically, even though I must have seen the film 100 times, I've never really seen it, and that's something I look forward to finally being able to do.

So I will relate in brief my afternoon. We set a post-production deadline of March 30th partially so that we could enter Receipt in the Rosebud Film and Video Festival in Arlington Virginia, whose deadline was today. Since we weren't finished with post-production as of Thursday, we were put into the interesting predicament of actually having to drive-up to Arlington to enter the film in-person. Since the render didn't finish until 10:00am this morning, I had to take the DVD at 11:00am and drive 2.5 hours up to Arlington, hand it in, and then drive 2.5 hours back to Charlottesville. In total, it cost be about $75 between the entry fee and the gas. Hopefully, this will have been worth it. At the very least, it forced us to plow through the final bit of post so we have some time to relax before the film premieres.
