I'm going to do something I haven't done yet on the blog and which may bore some people to tears and infinitely excite others. I'm going to list below a series of statistical facts about our film project as compared to the averages for the "standard independent film" and for the "standard 'Hollywood' film," by which I mean a big-budget American feature film. My point in making this comparison is to indicate the extraordinary level at which this film was produced compared to other "student films" not produced by MFA students at NYU, UCLA, or USC film schools. Alright, here goes:
Number of hours of footage Shot: 26 hours Final length of film: 80 minutes
Ratio of footage shot to footage used: 16 minutes: 1 minute Standard Independent Film Ratio: 15 minutes: 1 minute Standard Hollywood Film Ratio: 20 minutes: 1 minute
Number of minutes of score: 46 minutes Percentage of film with score: 59% Independent film percentage with score: 45-60% Hollywood film percentage with score: 55-65%
Length of principal photography: 4 months Independent film length: 3-4 months Hollywood film length:: 3-4 months
